Most of us consider this profession as very lucrative, but we rarely adhere to the dark side. Whenever there is riot or civil violence in our country, we blame the cops for not acting into the situation and barely standing as a spectator. But have we ever noticed how ill-equipped they are to handle the situation. With mere cricket helmet and a 303 rifle they have to take on with the crisis.
Hardly paid enough and don’t bother about the compensation cops are expected to offer their lives. Aren’t we asking too much? I agree there is a seed of corruption in this sector but it is a result of our indifference.Ask yourself have you ever asked a traffic policemen a glass of water? We rarely treat them as human but we are first to point out their mistakes.
Sting operations carried out by media on constable who earns just Rs2500 a month and has to support a family, shows how far we have moved from healing their wounds. Why are we so reluctant in understanding the fact that ‘orders’ play a vital role in any probe or action by a policeman. And these orders come from self-centered politicians who refuse to think beyond vote bank.
When are we going to step forward and offer respect and dignity to policemen? When?
